THE partnership that sees Dick Smith run the electronics section of David Jones department stores will come to an end next week, with 181 jobs to go.
Receivers Ferrier Hodgson announced in a statement on Friday that 27 David Jones outlets will be affected. The closures will come into effect on Thursday January 28.
Ferrier Hodgson have been undertaking an ongoing review of the operations of Dick Smith’s operations, with a view to maintaining stable operations in order to facilitate its sale as an ongoing concern.
As a result of this review, it was determined that the David Jones Electronics Powered by Dick Smith concession stores will cease to exist. According to the receivers, the closure of the concessions is a necessary step in the restructuring to assist in ensuring the commercial viability of the Dick Smith Group businesses.
Of the 181 employees affected, two are fulltime, 78 part-time, and 101 casual. Dick Smith is now working to identify opportunities for the employment of these people via its existing network.
Comment has been sought from David Jones and the Shop, Distributive and Allied Employees Association.
