A grandmother accused of deliberately drowning her four-year-old grandson smiled as she appeared in court on Thursday.
Dawn Diana Raines-Hewes, 51, is charged with murdering Richard Kite in a bathtub while she was babysitting her grandchildren in Fairfield, California, on December 29.
Police say Raines-Hewes admitted intentionally drowning Richard, who was found unconscious by a neighbor after the grandmother ran screaming from the house.

Police received a 911 call about a boy drowning. They then arrived at the scene and tried to resuscitate the boy.
He was taken to hospital but died a short time later.
Two of her granddaughters, aged one and six years old, were in her care at the time but were not harmed.
Raines-Hewes is being held in Solano County Jail without bail.
Investigators are still trying to find a motive.
If found guilty of murder Raines-Hewes could be jailed for life, with a minimum sentence of 25 years. She has also been charged with assaulting a child.
