Justin Timberlake goes ice climbing with Conrad Anker in Instagram photo collage

Justin Timberlake wielded an axe while ice climbing with a legendary mountaineer in an Instagram snap posted on Monday.

The 34-year-old singer wore a thick beard while scaling a vertical frozen wall of ice with noted mountaineer Conrad Anker, 53, in a photo collage shared with his nearly 20 million followers.

'New year... New adventures. Went ICE CLIMBING today with the legendary @conrad_anker. If you haven't seen #merufilm @merufilm then you HAVE TO check it out. Mind-blowing what these guys do with their minds and bodies. Amazing documentary and VERY worth the recognition it's getting!,' Justin wrote in the caption.

Justin in the photo four-pack wore a red jacket and black pants while climbing with Conrad who is featured in the 2015 documentary Meru.

The documentary follows Conrad and fellow renowned alpinists Jimmy Chin and Renan Ozturk as they attempt to climb the Shark's Fin on Mount Meru in northern India.

Justin and his 33-year-old wife Jessica Biel last month hosted a screening of the documentary at RED Studios in Los Angeles.

Jessica and Justin previously worked with Meru producer Shannon Ethridge on the 2010 television documentary Summit On The Summit to raise awareness about water issues.

Shannon also once worked as an assistant on Jessica's 2007 film Next.

Meru won the Audience Award for Documentary at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival and received positive reviews from Outside Magazine, Variety, The Hollywood Reporter and Newsweek.

Justin and Jessica welcomed their son Silas Randall in April.

They both can be heard on the big screen later this year with Justin portraying Branch in the DreamWorks Animation movie Trolls while Jessica will play Vix in the movie Spark.
