Khoroshilov leads 1st run of World Cup slalom; Hirscher 2nd

ADELBODEN, Switzerland (AP) — Aleksander Khoroshilov of Russia used the No. 1 starting bib to post the fastest opening-run time in a World Cup slalom on Sunday.

Khoroshilov got first and best use of a soft-snow surface to lead Marcel Hirscher of Austria, the overall World Cup leader, by 0.24 seconds.

Henrik Kristoffersen of Norway, who leads the World Cup slalom standings, was third, 0.32 behind Khoroshilov's time of 55.21.

Khoroshilov aims to break up the Hirscher-Kristoffersen dominance in slalom this season.

The Olympic silver and bronze medalists have gone 1-2 in each of the three races so far, including on Wednesday at Santa Caterina, Italy, where the 31-year-old Russian was third.

Racing started despite fog and falling snow on a course judged unsafe for Saturday's giant slalom, which was canceled.
