A city centre was on lockdown today as snipers surrounded a high-rise building when a man claiming to have a bomb sparked a terror threat.
Police evacuated a number of buildings in Liverpool city centre and a cordon was put in place after a man said he was carrying a 'suspect package'.
Workers in Silkhouse Court, a 14-storey office block in the centre, sounded a fire alarm before being evacuated from the building following the threat at around 10.30am.

Merseyside Police said the man had been 'acting suspiciously' and specialist officers are now negotiating with him.
According to the Liverpool Echo, the man, reported to be white and middle-aged, is currently inside the tower block.
A number of roads have been closed and the bomb disposal unit are currently on the scene.
Merseyside Police told MailOnline: 'Officers were called to the scene at about 10.30am today following reports of a man acting suspiciously and claiming to be in possession of a suspect package.
'The fire alarm was activated by staff, who evacuated themselves. All employees have since been fully accounted for. The man is still inside the building and negotiators are seeking direct contact with him, in order to safely resolve the situation.
'No one is injured and a cordon has been put in place as a safety precaution.'

Police have closed Tithebarn Street, and Old Hall Street at the junction with Union Street and they are advising motorists to avoid the area.
According to the Liverpool Echo, a police helicopter is on the scene as well as firefighters from Merseyside Fire and Rescue.
The alarm is believed to have been activated on the fifth floor of Silkhouse Court.
Liverpool law firm MSB Solicitors are among the businesses affected by the Tithebarn Street closure.
Following the evacuation, the company tweeted: 'Apologies to all clients bomb scare on 5th floor of our silkhouse court office so building evacuated.'
