MAYBE it’s the weather.
Coles has been hit with an apparent insect infestation, with customers finding cockroaches, spiders, flies and insect cocoons in their food.
Over the past 24 hours, four separate customers have posted videos of their encounters with creepy crawlies in Coles products to the supermarket’s Facebook page.
Yesterday, Tupu Natapu posted a video of a Coles packet of brown rice apparently infested with insects. “So this is what we found in one of your brown rice packets we opened it to make dinner,” he wrote. “Insects that hatched from their cocoon. Eww.”
Kariem Sobh revealed how he found a fly “frozen to perfection” in a packet of Coles brand frozen pitted cherries from Chile. “This just happened,” he wrote. “Awesome work guys.”
Not to be outdone, Susie Yock was greeted by what appears to be a huntsman hiding in a box of Borderland Organics grapes.
“Found this in my grapes today,” she wrote. “Poor thing has been in there since Sunday and I had no idea! Won’t be eating these grapes tonight.”
And this morning, Nicole Alsop discovered a cockroach in a box of Kiwi fruit. “Shopped at Coles in Myrtleford and bought these Kiwi fruit,” she wrote.
“When we got home and was unpacking our shopping we noticed this cockroach in the packet.”

Coles has been contacted for comment. Responding to Mr Natapu on Facebook, a Coles social media representative said: “We’re concerned to see this, Tupu and would like to discuss this further with you.
“Could you please send us a private message with your phone number so we can arrange this? In the meantime, please hold on to the packaging as our team will need the product details for their investigation.”
Last week, Woolworths customer Zoe Perry had a similar surprise when she discovered a spider hiding in a bag of Italian Style Salad Mix.
It came after a recall was issued by both supermarkets after a spate of salmonella poisoning cases were linked to pre-packaged lettuce and spinach leaves.
