Adam Johnson arrives for the fourth day of his trial for sexual activity with a child this morning. The court heard from his accuser's best friend
A teenager who saw Adam Johnson's accuser after her meeting with the footballer has told a jury: 'Something had happened between them for definite.'
The jury in Johnson's trial was today shown a recorded police interview with a girl who was with the alleged victim before and after she met the former Sunderland winger in his Range Rover in January last year.
Describing her friend after the meeting, she told police: 'She was more excited - not excited for something, just excited - in a good mood, really'.
She said the girl had then told her about a sex act, which Johnson's denies took place.
The England player has admitted grooming the girl, who was 15 at the time, and has pleaded guilty to sexual activity with the her, relating to kissing in his car.
But the footballer denies two further charges of sexual activity with the same girl, which prosecutors have described as 'more serious'.
In the interview with the alleged victim's friend which was played today, the friend said: 'I asked her if anything had happened as I'd seen messages before asking for a bit of a feel.'
After telling of the sex act her friend described, she added: 'She seemed excited about it at first but she started to realise what she'd done because he had a girlfriend.'
In her police interview, the girl's best friend told an officer how she did not believe her friend at first, 'because he's a footballer, he's famous and she's only 15'.
But she explained how she changed her mind after a seeing a message Johnson sent to her friend which said: 'Just wanted to get your pants off'.
The girl told the officer: 'That's why I know something had happened between them for definite.'
Later giving live evidence over a video-link in court, the girl told the jury: 'She [her friend] said that they talked on Snapchat and he'd asked her to send a naked picture and that's all I can remember about it.'
The court heard the girl had spoken to police again last week and said her friend had told her about more serious sexual activity which she had not told officers about in the earlier interview.
The girl said: 'She [her friend] told me not to say anything.'
She also told the jury: 'She told me that she'd been texting him before she went away and he offered to meet her for money.'
Johnson has admitted one count of sexual activity with a child and grooming but denies two further offences. The footballer (pictured this morning) was today not accompanied by his girlfriend Stacey Flounders (right)
Johnson's girlfriend, Stacey Flounders, who is standing by him despite the alleged offences happening when she was pregnant, was not with him as he entered court today.
Johnson, 28, of Castle Eden, Co Durham, has admitted one count of sexual activity with a child relating to kissing the girl in his car on January 30 last year.
The former Sunderland star has also admitted grooming the teenager but denies two further charges of sexual activity with a child, described by prosecutors as 'more serious', relating to the same encounter.
The trial continues.
