The item on the breakfast programme - featuring rare comics and expensive memorabilia - was to mark the start of comic book and sci-fi festival, Comic Con.

Setting up the skit, Laura informed the audience: 'We've got a very special display here called Replicator Man.

'Now this was a character back in the 70s which was taken to schools, that was designed, there's a special poster that is worth about £150,000 and there's only ten of them in the world.

'They were taken to schools and at the very last minute it wasn't included in the comic series.'

Revealing the 'precious' poster, Laura continued: 'So here we go and no one's really seen this before...so this is The Replicator Man and I've got my gloves on and I'm feeling really nervous because you said the oils can really spoil them.

'If I just take that off to get a closer look…'

The other presenters became nervous of her handling the item, Richard Arnold said: 'I'm a bag of nerves now Laura.'

Ripping the comic, Laura shrieked and said: 'Oh my goodness. Is this the original one that's worth £150,000? My heart is going ten to the dozen. Was it the gloves?'

Completely unaware of the prank, a shocked Richard Arnold said: 'We are making this up right?'

Ranvir Singh added: 'We've probably got some insurance that covers this.'

Panicked, Charlotte Hawkins said: 'Can we just glue that back down again? Can we go to an advert?' Ripping the rest of the poster, Laura finally revealed: 'Guys - it was a joke! It's not really worth £150,000, it's worth nothing!'
