Real Madrid stars celebrate Champions League win over Roma

Cristiano Ronaldo and his Real Madrid team-mates were dressed to impress on their flight back to Spain as they celebrated their 2-0 Champions League win against Roma.

Los Blancos all but sealed their quarter-final spot on Wednesday night at the Stadio Olimpico with second-half goals from Ronaldo and substitute Jese leaving the Italian side with a mountain to climb.

Roma, who failed to take advantage of their opportunities in an open second half, will travel to the Bernabeu on March 8.

Ronaldo said on Tuesday that he does not socialise with his team-mates, and the Real squad looked strictly business on the flight home.

The Portuguese was angry in the build-up to the match at criticism of his recent away scoring record but the former Manchester United forward answered his critics in Rome when his deflected effort beat Wojciech Szczesny.

The result, sealed by Jese's late individual effort, lifts the gloom that descended on Madrid in the build-up to the game.

Madrid were missing the incisive running of Gareth Bale who is still suffering from a calf injury and it appears his £86m transfer from Tottenham could be investigated in the European Parliament after three MEPs tabled a written question requesting the European Commission look into involvement of Spanish bank Bankia in the deal.

Before taking to the pitch they will also have been aware that they had fallen seven points behind leaders Barcelona after Luis Enrique's side won their game in hand against Sporting Gijon.
