Witness Wendy Lee said she had 'never seen anything like it' in her 20 years of playing bingo after a brawl broke out between two sets of players
Police were called to break up a mass brawl at a bingo hall after violence flared between two groups of players.
The fight involving 10 people erupted in the middle of the Gala Bingo in Derby just after the evening session began at around 8.30pm on Saturday night.
Witnesses said a rowdy group in their twenties scrapped with middle-aged players who were annoyed at the amount of noise they were making while the numbers were being called.
They said handbags were thrown during the fight before security staff intervened and police were called to the scene.
Mother-of-four Wendy Lee, 50, from Chaddesden, Derby, said she had 'never seen anything like it' in her 20 years of playing bingo.
She said: 'One minute we were looking down waiting for the numbers to be called, the next minute there was a fight breaking out.
'It was unbelievable, I've never seen anything like it in all my life.
'My friend who I took has never been to the bingo before and he said to me '"if this is what happens, I'm coming again, it's very entertaining"
'I think he was expecting it to just be the blue rinse brigade.
'Three police officers came in, they were there in a matter of minutes, but the fighting had more or less stopped by then.
'We heard an old man saying "they should have more respect" as we were walking through the foyer. So they may have been disturbed by their noise.
'There were a few people filming what was happening on their phones, it was all very strange.
'I felt sorry for the staff at the bingo hall, as they clearly aren't used to anything like this happening.
'They did a great job calming the situation for when the police arrived.'
Another bingo player Jim Hamer, 66, from Darley, in Derby, added: 'It was just handbags being thrown really. It was six of one, half a dozen of the other.
'There were a group in their twenties who were a bit rowdy and a group nearby who were in their forties took exception to the noise they were making as the numbers came out.
'But they were only having a bit of fun on a Saturday night. It was just a few stuffy old sorts getting their knickers in a twist.'
The mass brawl broke out at Gala Bingo in Derby. One group complained that another were making too much noise, and the ensuing fight ended with police being called
Derbyshire Police confirmed that it sent officers to the scene and that no-one was arrested as a result of the fight.
A police spokesman said: 'We attended the scene where there had been a verbal dispute between two groups of customers and tempers became heightened.
'However, after we spoke to the people involved there were no offences caused and no arrests were made.'
A spokeswoman for Gala Bingo said the company operated a 'zero tolerance' policy on anti-social behaviour.
She said: 'We can confirm there was an incident at out Derby city centre club between two customers.
'The police were called and dealt with the situation.'
