As any parent knows, when the children are being a little too quiet, they're usually up to something mischievous.
But this group of mums and dads walked into a room to discover that their children had truly set a new standard.
In hilarious Facebook posts shared by Je Suis Lorrain, parents shared pictures proving the messy, destructive, and at times very expensive mischief their children get up to when left alone for even a moment.
In one photo, a little boy grins at the camera, clearly proud of his masterpiece of permanent marker scribbles that adorns the bathroom walls, toilet and his own body.

In another photo shared, a little girl stands upright, covered in white paint from head to toe. The background shows a trail of white footprints across wooden floorboards.
She looks suitable shameful, with her head down and eyes looking towards the camera.
Paint seems to be a common theme for toddlers, with another submission showing a little boy in a red jumper who has covered his floor in green paint.
The child appears to have slid around in the paint, as his legs and hands are a shade of forest green as well.

Other children prefer food for mess-making it appears, with many photos show what happens when kids get into the pantry.

But it's not all bad news- expect maybe for the parents who had to replace the flat screen TV smashed by their son- because experts say being messy is good for toddlers.
Scientists from the University of Iowa have discovered that messy children are better at learning than their tidy peers.
The study, first published in 2013, asserted that children who played with their food learnt the names of those foods quicker, so remember that next time your toddler breaks into the food cupboard.
