Sheridan Smith dropped out of Tuesday evening's performance of musical Funny Girl after reportedly revealing that her father is 'suffering from cancer' - the same disease that killed her brother 26 years ago.
After facing a backlash from fans on social media after revealing she was pulling out of the show, the 34-year-old actress allegedly revealed that her dad Colin had been diagnosed.
Criticised by one fan on Twitter for dropping out of the evening's performance, Sheridan replied: 'If u just found out ur dad had cancer u would t be such a heartless human. Take care love (sic)'. She later deleted the message.

The comment followed an earlier tweet that saw the Cilla actress confirm she would not be starring in Tuesday's production.
'Had s**t news 2day,sorry I can't make the show for u loyal fans,if u ask they give u tix to the Savoy!"
She had also posted earlier cryptic messages, which she deleted soon after, that read, 'Decision made! Bye,' followed with, 'Unless I get enough money to look after my dad.'
So upset at having to let down her fans, the Gavin and Stacey star even promised to pay for fans' train fares.

'Promise I'll even pay your train fair! DM me X,' she wrote to one fan.
A representative for Sheridan told the MailOnline: 'Sheridan's father is unwell. As this is a difficult time, I ask you to respect her privacy and she has no plans to make further comment or detail on her Father's health.'

Speaking at the time, Sheridan said: 'Of course I've been affected by my brother's death... It makes me value life, cherish my loved ones and be grateful for every day I have with them.
'Cancer affects one in three of us and every single one of us either knows someone who has been affected by it or has experienced it first-hand. And yet it’s treated as a taboo subject.
'It’s never on telly. We should talk about it. It’s a hideous disease and we need to try to fight it.'
