McBusted drummer Harry Judd and his wife Izzy, have revealed they have ‘banked’ their newborn baby’s umbilical cord in a bid to protect her from illnesses in the future.

Harry and classical musician Izzy became proud parents to daughter Lola on January 25 after IVF treatment.

The couple decided to freeze blood and tissue from the cord, which is rich in stem cells that can help to cure many life-threatening illnesses.

Stem cells found in cord blood restore the function of a patient’s immune and blood-producing systems.

‘It was a no-brainer for us really,’ says Harry, 29, who has stored Lola’s cord blood and tissue with Sussex company Cells4Life.

‘Izzy and I discussed it in great detail, and the more we discovered in our own research the more it made sense.

‘As a parent you naturally want to protect your child, and taking the stem cells at birth is the easiest and most pain-free way to do so.

‘We now know that the frozen stem cells are there, which gives us great comfort.’

A new ten-second test allows women to diagnose yeast infections in the privacy of their own home for the first time.

Until now, yeast infections such as thrush could only be diagnosed with a test at a GP surgery or clinic.

The new Canestest home swab test can diagnose thrush with a 90 per cent accuracy rate, so the right course of treatment can be chosen.

It also tests for bacterial vaginosis (BV), a common condition of which up to half of sufferers have no symptoms at all.

The swab changes colour to yellow if thrush is detected, and green/blue for BV.

Thrush can be caused by oral contraceptives antibiotics, pregnancy or a weak immune system. Canestest is £9.99 at pharmacies.

A wrinkle in your earlobe may be a sign of heart disease, according to a new study.

The bizarre link has been made because the type of tissue deterioration which causes furring up of the arteries – a major factor in heart disease – can also be seen in the ears.

The risk of coronary heart disease is more than three times higher in patients with earlobe creases, according to research from the University of Ioannina, Athens.

Results suggest that 62 per cent of patients with heart disease would be expected to have earlobe creases.

It seems that it’s all down to a loss of elastin, a protein that allows tissue to resume its shape after stretching. This affects both arteries and earlobes.

In heart disease, the decline of elastin can lead to a build-up of plaque, while in the earlobe it can weaken the collagen tissue, leading to creases.
